Rainbow Landscape irrigation & Maintenance (landscape contractor) did this landscape & hardscaping project in Mill Valley, Marin County, California. This is a house where Rainbow Landscape has been provided garden maintenance services since 2003. The owners decided to sell this property in 2009 and they highly recommended our garden maintenance services to the new homeowners. Since the landscape was in a good condition, the new owners wanted to modify the backyard space to increase the play area for their children, and they scheduled a visit to discuss the project further. The homeowners approved the landscaping project and we started working right away.

In order to extend the playground area to the desired square footage we needed to push back the existing retaining wall in the lower level. First, we started by removing the existing brick patio and dumping away all the removed bricks. Then we had to take down the stone retaining wall in the lower level. There is a stone staircase in the middle of the backyard  with a pergola on top of the lower steps. We removed the bottom steps and carefully took the pergola off the ground to relocate it forward.  We did a surface grading, then we started building a french drainage, and then a second grading was done.

We started building a new stone retaining wall using the removed stones from the previous retaining wall. Also, a new wood retaining wall was built as well. The pergola was placed back on top of the last step from the existing stone staircase. And then the final grading for the surface was done to proceed with the installation of a new stone patio & natural grass with an irrigation system to water the new sod.

The new homeowners were very pleased with the results. We continue providing garden maintenance services to this property every other week. Such services includes servicing the irrigation system, applying insecticides when required, blowing the driveway, patio and walkways; fertilizing the garden, mowing the lawn, pruning, mulching when needed, and weeding out.
